I am alive!

It has been a while since my last sign of life here on my blog. The reason being; that I have been sooo busy. However some results have come out of it:

This semester I have been taken a course on EA and I have finished op and handed in my report that is to be used at the exam in June.

I have also interviewed Mikkel Haugsted Brahm who is Chief Consultant of Development and IT in Nykredit. The purpose of the interview was to get a view on the challenges/problems of SOA from a practitioner. There where no big surprises, but some good points I for sure will pursue at a later time. It is ALWAYS nice to talk to someone who is actually doing it – and not just talking! - like me ;-)

I have been working on the next version of onmob.dk (The mobile access to the Roskilde Festival). I took a week out of the thesis, and it was a nice to actually build something again – I guess I was getting a little tired of all the “bla bla” you get thrown at you when working with EA and SOA. One of my tasks during my programmingdays was to make it possible for TDC to integrate directly into our system – I now it is not SOA, but it nice to try out the technological tools (Web Services) in a production environment. And I am happy to say; It works like a charm!

Oh, I almost forgot. I am also still working at the National IT and Telecom agency ;-) And that is of course still taking some of my time!

So all in all – having fun, but a bit overloaded at the moment

OASIS SOA Reference Model and SOEA

The initiative started by OASIS to define the SOA Reference Model (SOA-RM), and my resent work on defining SOA, I see as a clear indication that I am on to something. As previously posted I see SOA and EA influencing each other in a so profound way that I started working with the concept of Service Oriented Enterprise Architecture (SOEA).

My main research arrears to prove the importance of SOEA is the documentation of the SOA process and SOA products resulting from the SOA process. This work is of course based on my definition on SOA, but looking at the OASIS initiative it is my belief that I am moving in the right direction - It would seem that OASIS is working on defining the concepts of SOA, but neglecting the processes required to make SOA work in the long run.

I will however like to emphasize my appreciation of the OASIS initiative, as a common conceptual understanding of SOA is a basic requirement for my work – and extremely needed in general!
